Blood, Gore, & Zombies... Evil Dead: The Musical To West Seattle

BLOOD, GORE, AND ZOMBIES... THIS AIN’T OKLAHOMA!
ARTSWEST BRINGS THE OUTRAGEOUS EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL TO SEATTLE!

SEATTLE PREMIERE: OCTOBER 20TH – NOVEMBER 13TH, 2010 PRESS NIGHT: WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 20TH, 2010 - 7:30PM

Seattle, WA (September 14, 2010) –From October 20th through November 13th ArtsWest Playhouse & Gallery presents the Seattle Premiere of Evil Dead: the Musical. Based on the 1980s cult-classic films Evil Dead 1, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, Evil Dead: the Musical is a live stage rock musical “rendering” of these great slasher epics. Five college students are on their way to a secluded cabin in the woods when they accidentally unleash an evil force that turns them one-by-one into flesh-eating demons! It's all up to Ash (a housewares employee-turned-demon-killing hero), and his trusty chainsaw to save the day! Blood flies. Limbs are dismembered. Demons tell jokes... all is set to a side-splitting musical score including numbers like “Look Who’s Evil Now,” “Ode to an Accidental Stabbing,” “All the Men In My Life Keep Getting Killed By Candarian Demons,” and “Blew That Bitch Away.”

Yup, this is definitely an adults-only show with naughty language and lots and lots of blood. And remember to keep your nice clothes at home if you plan on sitting in the SPLATTER ZONE. Complimentary ponchos will be provided, but there’s no guarantee that front row audience members won’t get soaked with fake blood (don’t worry, it washes out).
For nearly three months the ArtsWest’s creative team has been preparing like mad for this musical gore-fest. Technical director Jill Beasley said, “I knew this show would be a challenge. I had to figure out an affordable way to launch gallons of blood across the stage every night for a whole bunch of performances, so I went and bought about thirty water guns,” Beasley joked. “Needless to say, the West Seattle dollar store is officially sold out of water guns.”
The young cast of actors is also getting pumped up for the musical debut. When asked about Evil Dead, Seattle actor and cast member Kate Jaeger chuckled and replied, “At the first reading I couldn’t stop laughing –the script is hilarious. Plus, I’m a psycho-crazy fan of the Evil Dead trilogy—so playing the role of Annie was pretty much a dream come true.” She added, “I feel so lucky to be working with Chris [Zinovitch] and Kim [Dare] – Evil Dead: the Musical is really everything you could ever possibly want in a horror–movie musical remake!”

“Crypt Keeper” Christopher Zinovitch leads the way as director along with musical director Kim “Trespass If You” Dare. Costumes designed by “Murderess” Margo Walker, set and props designed by “Deadly” Dan Schuy, lighting by Josh “the Ripper” Randall, and sound and effects by Rob “Rigor Mortis” Witmer.

Book and Lyrics for Evil Dead: the Musical are written by George Reinblatt, with music by George Reinblatt, Frank Cipolla, Melissa Morris, Rob Daleman and Christopher Bond.
Tickets for Evil Dead: the Musical may be purchased online at www.artswest.org, by phone at (206) 938-0339, or in person at the ArtsWest Box Office located at 4711 California Avenue S.W, Seattle. $10 tickets available for ages 25 and under. This show is recommended for ages 16 and older.

Performance Schedule: Wednesday-Saturday: 7:30pm; Sunday: 3:00pm Special Late-Night Performances on Saturday, October 30th,11pm & Saturday, November 13th, 11pm.

HP Lovecraft Film Festival Announces It's Retiring

The following message was posted on the HP Lovecraft Film Festival and CthulhuCon website.

"Yes the rumors are true... I am retiring (or going on sabbatical for awhile). I have been running this festival for 15 years and am out of sanity points. So what does this mean? Well Aaron Vanek has started a satellite festival in LA which will become an annual event. The Portland event is in limbo until I can find someone to replace me. We may have another satellite festival in Seattle and perhaps Austin. Regardless, I will always remain the founder... and the festival will live on and grow. So let us all celebrate H.P. and have a blast this October. cheers"

The final film festival will take place October 1st - 3rd, 2010 at the Hollywood Theater in Portland Oregon. Tickets are now available to purchase on the website.

SIFF 2010 Midnight Adrenaline Film Lineup

Midnight Adrenaline
In case of damage or leakage, immediately notify cinematic health authorities.

Seattle, WA – Midnight Adrenaline returns to SIFF this year with an overdose of highly addictive, unpredictable, and suspense-inducing features for the cult film junkie. Better than ever, SIFF showcases an onslaught of classic genre film and other underground fixations including a zombie apocalypse, slasher backwoods hillbillies, medieval fantasy games, and unusually enhanced geishas.

This year SIFF brings cult-classic grindhouse film to a whole new level with Israel Lunaʼs controversial transploitation film, Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives. Zombie mayhem ensues with a live ZomBcon event at Boom Noodle before the screening of George A. Romeroʼs Survival of the Dead, the sixth zombie film by the godfather of undead cinema. From Hong Kong, director Pang Ho-Cheung unleashes a gory tale of lifestyle fetishization and a desperate, bloody path towards obtaining oneʼs own Dream Home. In the kitschy RoboGeisha, Japan presents a twisted take on sibling rivalry as two cybernetic-enhanced geishas combat to win the local steel baronʼs heart.

2010 Midnight Adrenaline
Amer, directed by Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani (Belgium, 2009) A dreamy pastiche tour-de-force of 1970s Italian giallo horror movies that plays out a delirious, enigmatic death-dance of fear and desire. The filmʼs three parts, each in a different style, correspond to the childhood, adolescence, and adulthood of its female protagonist—and thatʼs all you need to know.

Centurion, directed by Neil Marshall (United Kingdom, 2010) When their legion is ambushed in Northern Britain, a small platoon of surviving Roman soldiers must evade a revenge-hungry band of barbarian warriors through harsh terrain in an attempt to rescue their general and return to the safety of the Roman frontier.

Dream Home, directed by Pang Ho-Cheung (Hong Kong, 2010) You have no idea how terrifying the housing crisis can get—upwardly-mobile Cheng Lai-Sheung will do anything to move into a new apartment with a magnificent sea view, even if it means going around her mortgage broker and taking matters into her own gory hands. Warning: features disturbingly imaginative violence and lifestyle fetishization.

George A. Romeroʼs Survival of the Dead, directed by George A. Romero (Canada, 2009) The godfather of undead cinema returns with his sixth zombie film as two rival families feud on a remote island—one wants to destroy any and all walking dead, while the other holds back in hopes of finding a cure to return their undead relatives to life.

RoboGeisha, directed by Noboru Iguchi (Japan, 2009) Poor Yoshie lives in the shadow of older sister Kikue, a fast rising star at the local geisha house. But when the local steel baron abducts the pair, transforming them into cybernetic-enhanced geisha assassins, the sisters gleefully elevate their sibling rivalry into a technological arms race to win his heart.

Splice, directed by Natali Vincenzo (Canada, 2009) In this 21st century creature feature, two young scientists willfully ignore society's ethical boundaries, and achieve fame by splicing the DNA of different animals into the human genome to create a new species. However, their creation rapidly develops into a beautiful, yet deadly, winged chimera.

Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives, directed by Israel Luna (USA, 2010) After being violently beaten and left for dead, a group of violated vixens turn into deadly divas and, with newfound confidence and courage, slash their way to vengeance in this controversial slice of grindhouse transploitation.

Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil, directed by Eli Craig (USA, 2010) Hillbillies Tucker and Dale have found their perfect “fixer-upper” cabin, but remodeling is never easy, particularly when a group of college co-eds on spring break start killing themselves all over your property.

The Wild Hunt, directed by Alexandre Franchi (Canada, 2009) When Erikʼs girlfriend leaves him to attend a weekend medieval re-enactment game, he follows in hopes of winning her back. But as Erik, with the help of his Viking chieftain brother Bjorn, treads deeper into the game in search of his love, he inadvertently disrupts the fantasylandʼs delicate balance of make-believe.

The 36th Seattle International Film Festival is made possible in part by support from Comcast, The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, Brotherton Cadillac Buick GMC, Alaska Airlines, Don Q Rums, The Wallace Foundation, Wong Doody, American Airlines, Modern Digital, POP, and City Arts Magazine. Intent on rescuing genre films from premiering on video store shelves, Shade and Chris set out to unearth classic and contemporary 'cult movies' that deserved to be showcased on the big screen, and thus, DRIFFF was born. Presented by Rude Shape Productions and Oddity Cinema, DRIFFF 2009 features northwest premieres, special guest Q & As, award-winning shorts, door prizes and more gore than you can stab a stake through.

We will also be serving up the 1970s grindhouse classic INGLORIOUS BASTARDS (Italy), the inspiration for Quentin Tarantino’s latest epic.

Featured short films include DEAD BONES (Switzerland) starring Ken Foree, Richard Gale’s festival favorite THE HORRIBLY SLOW MURDERER WITH THE EXTREMELY INEFFICIENT WEAPON (USA), Carl Morano and John Carchietta's THE PICK UP, and Jason Eisener's tale of Christmas carnage TREEVENGE (Canada), and as a special treat, we're opening the festival with & TELLER and & TELLER2, two short films co-directed by Teller, the quieter, smaller half of famed magic duo Penn & Teller, and a special performance by the composers of the soundtracks for the shorts, the remarkable 3 Leg Torso, with Larold Will as a special guest performer on theremin!

MIFFF Debuts the Maelstrom International Fantastic Film Festival

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 31, 2009

Subject: MIFFF Debuts the Maelstrom International Fantastic Film Festival
Seattle Genre Film Festival To Open This September

Seattle, March 31, 2009 - The Maelstrom International Fantastic Film Festival(MIFFF), a three day international showcase of animation, fantasy, horror, and science fiction cinema, is pleased to announce its inaugural launch September 18-20th, 2009 at the SIFF Cinema at McCaw Hall in Seattle, Washington USA.

As a genre film festival in Seattle, MIFFF(www.mifff.org) is a unique entity. The Seattle Metropolitan Area is home to one of the largest film attending populations in the country. MIFFF is a venue that gives a voice to genre film fans through a wide spectrum of films and related programming.

Festival Co-Founder and current President Gabe de los Angeles sees a great opportunity for MIFFF: "We are thrilled to give Seattle and the Pacific Northwest audience something special in the film festival community, a showcase of international genre cinema. It's incredible that we're going to be able to host on this event on the historic grounds of Seattle Center".

The first annual MIFFF plans to screen a variety of animation, fantasy, horror, and science fiction films over three days. The festival will include feature length films, short films, and genre specific documentaries. In addition to the film screenings, MIFFF plans to have panel discussions, Q & A's with filmmakers, and after parties.

Eric Morgret, Festival Director of Programming and Co-Founder, comments: "There are genre films produced every year that are not shown in mainstream movie theaters. Many international genre films remain unseen or get very limited exposure in this part of the country. For three nights MIFFF will bring a strong slate of these titles to audiences here in Seattle. MIFFF wants to present films of the imagination the best way they can be: on a large screen with fantastic sound, and in front of an audience full of energy."

Isaac Alexander, Festival Director of Publicity and Co-Founder, comments: "Seattle has a great history of supporting genre films with Poltergeist, The Empire Strikes Back, & Return of the Jedi having had their World or American premieres in the city. Also Seattle has a diverse local genre fandom community, as well as it hosts the Science Fiction Museum & Hall of Fame. We will be able to promote this city and offer a venue to gather and celebrate this unique form of entertainment, and join film festivals of the fantastic across the globe in celebrating this form of cinema."

Attendees, Press and Industry Members are encouraged to join our event on other social media websites.

The Necronomicon opens in Seattle

The Necronomicon
Open Circle Theater
Seattle, WA
October 10 - November 15, Thu.-Sat. @ 8pm - Sun. @ 4pm
http://www.octheater.com/

Open Circle Theater continues it's 6th year of smash-hit adaptations of stories by the master of the macabre, H.P. Lovecraft. This year we are creating an original piece based on Lovecraft's works and involving his sinister tome, The Necronomicon.

A young woman is being terrorized by nightmares. But what happens when things from her dreams start occurring in her real life. Is she going crazy, or are there really man/squid things attacking her? And the strange "hero" who has suddenly appeared? And what is that strange book she keeps dreaming about...

Come see what all the screaming is about...
