Valkyries, LLC Announces New Event "Innocente Seraphim"

Valkyries, LLC Announces New Event "Innocente Seraphim"

Valkyries, LLC, producers of cultural events, announced it will host a new two-day conference “Innocente Seraphim” which celebrates the art of the ball-jointed doll and Japanese Street Fashion.

Bellevue, WA, January 26, 2009 -- Valkyries, LLC, producers of cultural events, announced it will host a new two-day conference “Innocente Seraphim”. Taking place on August 8 and 9, 2009 at the beautiful Bellevue Westin Hotel, the conference will focus as an innovative meeting place for those who love Japanese Street Fashions and modern Ball-Jointed Dolls (BJD).

“Innocente Seraphim is organized to be the major annual gathering for those who are passionate about Japanese Street Fashion such as Gothic and Elegant Lolita, Visual Kei and FRUiTs; and for those who adore BJD’s from Japan, Korea, and China.” said Max Pham, Programming Manager/Co-founder of Innosera.

“At InnoSera, attendees and exhibitors will find information about the latest trends, developments and issues regarding the latest street fashion to upcoming street fashion designers from Japan. Innosera is also the place to be to get the best or latest information on current or soon-to-be released BJD collections from Asia” said Jennifer Wong, Operations Manager/Co-founder. “Attendees can participate in panels and workshops, meet Designers and professional Artisans, see fashion shows, and explore the Exhibitor’s Hall and Artist Alley.”

“Interest in Japanese Street Fashion and Ball-Jointed Dolls has grown substantially within the past few years. Hundreds of thousands of web-based communities and forums discuss designers and fashion trends for both BJD’s and those who love Japanese Street Fashion. American manga publisher TOKYOPOP translates the popular Japanese fashion magazine Gothic & Lolita Bible into English in response to the growing demands of the North American fan. ” said Walli Garrett-Lindsey, Publicity Manager/Co-founder. “One of the great things about InnoSera is our attendees give input on what they want to see and who in the fashion world they wish to meet in our community forum listed at www.innocenteseraphim.com. With that input, InnoSera will always be new and exciting.”

Emerald City ComiCon 2009

Happy New Year (it's still cool to say that, right? The year IS still pretty new...), we wish everyone all the best for an amazing 2009!

As for an amazing 2009, that's what we're planning on for the Emerald City ComiCon and we've got a bunch of great announcements, so let's get to it.

To begin with, we've added a couple new media guests. First off is JEWEL STAITE. You may know Jewel as the actress who played Kaylee Frye in Serenity and Firefly, and most recently played Dr. Jennifer Keller in Stargate: Atlantis!

The other media guest is Mr. BRUCE TIMM. He is the award-winning producer, director and designer for Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Justice League: Unlimited, Superman/Doomsday and the upcoming direct-to-DVD Wonder Woman animated feature!

Of course we've also added a few more creators to our line-up. Where to begin?

How about with Eisner Award-nominees TED NAIFEH (Courtney Crumrin) and NATE POWELL (See My Brother Dance)?

Or fan-favorites KURT BUSIEK (Trinity), GAIL SIMONE (Wonder Woman), STEVE ROLSTON (Emiko Superstar), ED BRUBAKER (Captain America) and CLAYTON CRAIN (X-Force)?

We've also added Image Comics co-founder JIM VALENTINO (Shadowhawk)? Speaking of Image, the entire creative team of two of their books, Proof (ALEX GRECIAN, RILEY ROSSMO and KELLY TINDALL) and Dead Ahead
(CLARK CASTILLO, MEL SMITH and ALEX NIÑO) are all making their first ECCC appearance!

Classic creators ERNIE CHAN (Conan) and TONY DEZUNIGA (Jonah Hex), cartoonists KEITH KNIGHT (K Chronicles) and DANIELLE CORSETTO (Girls With Slingshots).

Indy favorites DEREK KIRK KIM (Good As Lily), KEVIN CROSS (Black Heart Billy), CHRIS MORENO (World War Hulk: Frontline), STUART SAYGER (Bionicle), CHRISTIAN BERANEK (Grimm Fairy Tales) and DAN WICKLINE
(1001 Arabian Nights).

Writers SCOTT ALLIE (Buffy), FORD GILMORE (Thundercats) and C.B. CEBULSKI (X-Infernus) along with Eisner Award-winning colorist DAVE STEWART.

That's it for new guests, and believe it or not, we still have more to announce! Unfortunately, we've had a few cancellations as is always inevitable. Due to scheduling conflicts, none of the Udon Studios crew (Omar Dogan, Joe Ng & Jim Zubkavich) will be appearing, and neither will Darwyn Cooke or Joe Casey.

I did want to mention that Harmony Gold will be bringing their 2009 Robotech Convention Tour doing panels and giveaways throughout the weekend, which should be a lot of fun.

In exhibitor-related news, we're completely sold out of our artist alley and we're getting close to selling out our exhibitor floor too, so if you've been putting off getting a space at the show, I'd recommend not putting it off any longer.

Another quick heads-up that we've added one more discounted attendee hotel to our hotels page:
http://www.emeraldcitycomicon.com/hotel.php

Lastly, don't forget that tickets for the show are on sale now:

“We've been good friends of Marty for a long time and really love the work that he's done,” said video game composer and Video Games Live co-creator/conductor Jack Wall. “The audience's reaction to the Halo scores is always incredible and we're once again looking forward to adding more exclusive music from the franchise.” Game composer and Video Games Live co-creator/host Tommy Tallarico added, “It's always been a goal of ours to change the show each and every year. We're going into our 5th year of touring Video Games Live and each year we continue to mix it up and add to our setlist.” Aside from the 50+ game franchises already represented and created, Video Games Live is currently working on 10 new segments for 2009 including Megaman, Chrono Cross/Chrono Trigger, Super Smash Bros., Monkey Island, Shadow of the Colossus, Earthworm Jim, Silent Hill and more.

Authors Bring Fantasy and Science Fiction to Oregon Writers Conference

This year's South Coast Writers Conference weighs in on the side of fantasy and science fiction with award winning authors. Jayel Gibson, Leslie What and Timothy Zahn to present workshops.

Gold Beach, OR: January 9, 2009 -- The South Coast Writers Conference is an eclectic gathering of writers of various genres, novice and published authors; returning and first-time attendees. It is our goal that participants and presenters leave the conference inspired and renewed, with new insights and skills, and better connections to fellow writers and resources. Once again we have invited some of the Northwest's best writers to guide you in an exploration and celebration of the many facets of writing. This mid-sized Oregon conference is known for the quality of its presenters, and has included bestselling keynote speakers such as authors David Oliver Relin (Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time) and Larry Brooks (Bait and Switch).

This year's South Coast Writers Conference is no exception and weighs in on the side of fantasy and science fiction with award winning authors Jayel Gibson, Leslie What, and Timothy Zahn to present workshops.

In addition to a full time writing career, Jayel Gibson serves as an adjunct instructor at Southwestern Oregon Community College where she teaches writing for publication. She is a two time Teacher of the Year award recipient for her innovative use of technology and video gaming in the elementary classroom. Gibson is also the online book club moderator for Realms of Fantasy Magazine. Her articles on video gaming as an educational tool have appeared in Louisiana Parent's Magazine, Dallas Child Magazine, Education.com and Thefatherlife.com. She is a popular panelist and presenter at conventions and conferences.

Leslie What is an award-winning author of fiction and nonfiction. She has performed commentaries on public radio, published two story collections and a novel, and written a humor and health column for an alternative weekly. Other books include the Quadrail series, the Cobra series, and the young-adult Dragonback series. Zahn's most recent books are Dragon and Liberator, the sixth Dragonback book, and The Third Lynx, the second of the Quadrail series. The third Quadrail book, Odd Girl Out, was published in November 2008.

Other presenters at this year's conference include: Linda Barnes, Robin Cody, Robert Hill, Elizabeth Lyon, Jim Malcolm, Elizabeth McKenzie, Elizabeth Rusch, and Floyd Skloot.

Along with all day workshops on Friday and Saturday, the Conference is hosting an 'Author Night' on Friday, February 13th from 7 pm to 10 pm. Join the Gold Beach community in this exciting and uplifting evening. Timothy Zahn will give the keynote presentation on: What in the World Are We Doing in This Crazy Business? Following his keynote address will be readings by the other conference presenters, as well as an opportunity to purchase autographed books. Free and open to the public, this event is held at the Curry Showcase on the Curry County Fairgrounds in Gold Beach, Oregon.

Participation in workshops is limited to 30 students or fewer, register early to secure a seat in the workshops you want.

The Conference is always scheduled on Presidents' Day weekend in the hopes that attendees will extend their stay to write and to explore the splendor of America's Wild Rivers Coast. Visit our miles of spectacular beaches, explore our many hiking trails, or spend time on the mighty Rogue River.

Stumptown 2009

Happy new year, and welcome to the weekend. Here's hoping that 2009
will be a good year for you and a good one for comics!

And you heard it here first: Our Guest of Honor for the 2009 Stumptown
Comics Fest
(April 18 & 19) will be self-publishing hero to you and
me, JEFF SMITH. We're thrilled to have him join us.

Speaking of, the 2009 Fest is open for exhibitor registration! A
handful of eagle-eyed attendees watching the website have already
beaten the rush—-which sold out last year's fest before the Early Bird
Deadline—-so if you're planning on tabling this year, don't delay.

Longtime exhibitors will notice some improvements to the table pricing
structure, aimed at encouraging the greatest number of folks to
participate in the show. While the Early Bird window has been
eliminated, its discounted $70 price for a half table (which includes
one exhibitor badge) is now the standard price-- happy news for your
pocketbook! A full eight-foot table (with two badges) will put one
back $150, and additional square-footage will accrue additional costs.
Extra exhibitor badges are available for $10 apiece. All the details
are available in your handy PDF registration form at the Fest's online
headquarters, stumptowncomics.com.

The registration and payment deadline is ***February 18th, 2009.***
Checks should be made out to the Stumptown Comics Foundation, and
mailed with a completed registration form to:
SCF 2009 Registration
P.O. Box 40715
Portland, OR 97240

The goal of each year's Fest is to outdo the offerings, operations,
and low-key awesomeness of the prior year. Last year featured record
attendance, tours of comics-related gallery shows, and a staggering
number of events coinciding with the mayor's "Portland Comics Month"
proclamation—-all in addition to the Fest's full slate of workshops,
panels, signings, portfolio reviews, fantastic guests, and the Trophy
Awards. Stay tuned for the announcement of this year's Special Guests
and brand-new workshops.A

The Stumptown Comics Fest is an annual festival celebration of comics
and cartooning art in Portland, Oregon. Our Sixth Annual fest will be
held on April 18th-19th, 2009, at the Doubletree Hotel Lloyd Center,
1000 NE Multnomah St, Portland, OR 97232. Hope to see you there!

Best wishes,
Stumptown Publicity

ON SALE NOW!

Yes! SPARK FX '09 is open for business. On behalf of Vancouver ACM SIGGRAPH and the Vancouver International Film Centre, we would like to invite you to join us from January 21 - 26 for our second annual celebration of cinema magic. With most films now confirmed, we've opened sales up today – the last film should be confirmed by the end of the week. Sales for the speaking sessions will start this Wednesday (Jan. 7) at noon.

Once again this year, we're bringing you a fantastic mix of classic and recent effects-laden popcorn-chomping eye candy. Films like the original Alien, the classic Forbidden Planet, the blockbuster Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and from this century, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers – a film which set a new standard for the creation of digital characters.

Films are fabulous, but if you'd really like to learn something, then you might want to sit on your refresh button at lunch time on Wednesday – sales for some of the talks are likely to move really fast! We'll have Dennis Muren, winner of 9 Academy Awards including 6 Oscars®. Dennis will be talking about where he sees visual effects going in the future, and since he's the man driving the bus, he probably has a pretty good idea. Then there's Jeff Barnes, CEO of CafeFX, and Chairman of the Board of the Visual Effects Society. Jeff is coming to talk about the creation of the effects in Pan's Labyrinth, while Harrison Ellenshaw, one of the leading matte painters working today, is coming to share his thoughts about the relationship between computer graphics and narrative film, and how they influence each other. On the more technical side, Dr. Paul Debevec is joining us to talk about recent advances in the creation and animation of believable human characters.

Tickets for the films are $8 for members and $10 for non-members, while most of the talks are $10 for members and $20 for non-members. With over 15 speaker and panel sessions lined up, now would be a great time to become a member. For only $35 a year (+GST), you could save hundreds, and don’t forget to thank all our great sponsors – without them, ticket prices couldn’t be nearly this low.

There are literally dozens of excellent speakers with enviable credit lists taking part in SPARK FX this year, and we can't wait to see you at the Vancouver International Film Centre!
